Volunteering

Interested in volunteering at a local historic landmark? Volunteers are the backbone of The Wagnalls Memorial. We could not do without their countless hours of dedication, passion, and support. Wagnalls offers a variety volunteer opportunities ranging from tour guides to book sales. There are opportunities for everyone to become involved, so please join us!

If you are interested in becoming a Wagnalls volunteer, please complete our Volunteer Application Form.

Tour Guides

Are you good with people and do you like to share knowledge? Then the Wagnalls Tour Guide program may be right for you! Volunteer tour guides give tours of The Wagnalls Memorial to guests. They complete tour guide training and have in-depth knowledge of the facility and its history. To become a tour guide, a person must be trained and certified by Wagnalls Memorial staff.

Hosts / Hostesses

This is a group of volunteers who help with hosting our special events and large programs. They have some knowledge of Wagnalls and feel comfortable interacting with guests.

Friends of The Wagnalls Library

This is a group who meets monthly to help preserve Wagnalls by providing private gifts and their time. Friends of The Wagnalls Library support the library through book sales, and assisting with library programs. There is a small membership fee to join this group. Click here for more information on The Friends of Wagnalls library.

Friends of The Wagnalls Garden Members

The Friends of The Wagnalls Garden is dedicated to preserving, maintaining, and enhancing the gardens at The Wagnalls Memorial. Members cultivate the grounds to be a place of enjoyment for all Wagnalls guests. Gardening begins in April and continues through October.

All who are interested in gardening are invited to join in helping to maintain our beautiful gardens.

  • Bring hand tools (pruners, trowel, cultivator) and any other gardening items that you normally use.
  • Come and join us and meet fellow gardening enthusiasts!

The Fairfield Master Gardeners are our primary gardeners. We thank them for the service hours they provide to the memorial.
